Welcome to the "It All Adds Up!" exploration module. Here you can see how much garbage the average American generates!Did you know? The average person generates five pounds of garbage each and every day? That's a lot of garbage! 5 pounds of garbage per day adds up to 35 pounds of garbage a week! 5 pounds of garbage per day adds up to 1,825 pounds a year! All of that trash is created by 1 person!
Now, start adding up all of the people in your town. Can you imagine how much trash your town generates in a year? Many people in your town are trying to create less garbage! This is called waste reduction. One way to do this is to buy things that have very little packaging, and therefor less to throw in the trashcan. In other words, if you have fewer things to throw away, fewer things will end up in the landfill, and that can save you and your town lots of money!
Help your community, and the rest of the world, by practicing the 3R's: REDUCE, REUSE, and RECYCLE!
